Properties of Metal Complexes
This module is concerned with the reactions and properties of metal complexes. The chemistry of a metal ion may be modified when it is surrounded by particular ligands. In addition, the chemistry of the ligand molecule itself may be dramatically changed when it is coordinated to a metal. This is at the heart of the role of many metal ions in biology and is the focus of much research into transition metal complexes as catalysts for a range of industrial chemical reactions.
