Nucleophilic Addition to Carbonyl Groups
Molecules which have a carbonyl C=O group are particularly susceptible to attack by nucleophiles. Aldehydes and ketones tend to undergo nucleophilic addition reactions to form alcohols, while some carboxylic acid derivatives can undergo addition followed by the elimination of a leaving group.
